Julia Saylors, MD, joined the Charleston Oncology medical team after completing her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she also completed her residency in internal medicine. Dr. Saylors completed her undergraduate studies in biological sciences and psychology at Clemson University and is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Saylors is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, and her special interests include breast cancer and hematologic malignancies.

Kashyap Patel, MD, is a board certified hematologist/oncologist who specializes in palliative care. He is a full-time practicing medical oncologist with more than 20 years of experience working directly with cancer patients.
Dr. Patel serves as President of the Community Oncology Alliance, on the advisory board for Medicaid HMOs, and has been a Carrier Advisory Committee member for the DHHS (SC), Palmetto GBA. Dr. Patel has a special interest in healthcare policy and economics and new alternative payment models.
He completed his residency at Jamaica Hospital in New York City and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is a certified trainer for physicians on “Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care,” and has published journal articles and presented both nationally and internationally.

Gene B. Saylors, MD is board certified in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine. He is a Charleston native and received his Bachelor of Science in Cellular Biology from the University of Georgia. He obtained his Doctorate of Medicine degree from The University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He then entered his internship and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also completed his fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Saylors recently served as a primary investigator in a landmark curative lung cancer trial, enrolling the most patients in the world, and was published in The New England Journal of Medicine. He also has research publications in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the Journal of General Internal Medicine, and Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Dr. Saylors serves as the current President of the South Carolina Oncology Society actively working to improve patient care across the state and nationally. He is highly active in clinical research and treats all cancer and blood disorders with a significant interest in gastrointestinal cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and skin cancers.

Emily Z. Touloukian, DO, joined Coastal Cancer Center in 2012. She received her medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. She completed her internship and residency at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, and her fellowship in hematology/oncology at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan.
Dr. Touloukian is board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is the president of the Horry County Medical Society, and an active member of the teaching staff for the internal medicine residency at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where she serves as the subspecialty education coordinator for oncology and assistant professor of internal medicine at the University of South Carolina. Additionally, she is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Clinical Affairs Committee for the Association of Cancer Care Centers .
